Pananarama

Wider (shorter mm) = a taller band, wrapping more of your view top-to-bottom. It won't add detail. Sharpness is the pano's vertical pixels spread across that band, so the more you stretch a zoomed-in pano, the softer it looks. Panos shot wide (0.5×/1×) already cover a tall view, so they fill the space without stretching their pixels thin.
